Privacy Policy for HomeInventory

This Privacy Policy explains how HomeInventory handles information when you use the Android application.

Summary

HomeInventory is designed to help you organize household products, storage locations, stock levels, shopping lists, purchases, usage, and stocktaking. Most app data is stored locally on your device. The app also includes optional features that you start yourself, such as barcode and QR-code scanning, product-name lookup through Open Food Facts, XML file import/export or Bluetooth exchange.

Information stored by the app

The app may store the following information locally on your device:

• household inventory group records, including name, description, display order, visibility, image, and thumbnail;
• product records, including product name, category, unit, minimum quantity, default quantity, default storage location, and whether purchases should be added to stock;
• product barcode records;
• category, storage location, and quantity-unit dictionary records;
• purchase, product-usage, and stocktaking records, including product, storage location, quantity, and date;
• shopping-list and draft-list records, including products, quantities, completion state, purchase dates, order, and stock-saving choices;
• deleted-record metadata used for synchronization;
• app settings and internal state, including theme and display settings, image-size settings, shopping state, synchronization tokens, and Bluetooth exchange tokens.

This information is stored in the app's local database and settings storage on your device.

Permissions and device features

The app may use the following permissions and device features:

• Camera, to scan product barcodes or synchronization QR codes when you choose to use those features.
• Internet and network access, to look up product names through Open Food Facts, open external web content, and support Google Play or included library functionality.
• Bluetooth permissions, to discover or pair with nearby devices and exchange HomeInventory data directly with another device when you choose to use Bluetooth exchange. HomeInventory does not use Bluetooth scanning to determine your location.
• Vibration, to provide device feedback for features such as barcode scanning.
• Foreground service, wake lock, boot, and network-state related permissions may be added by Google Play delivery, update, or Android support libraries used by the app.

Camera frames used for barcode or QR-code scanning are processed for detection and are not stored by HomeInventory. Barcode and QR-code detection is performed on the device by Google ML Kit.

Images and media

If you add an image to a household inventory group, that image and its generated thumbnail may be stored in the app database. Images and thumbnails may also be included in file export or Bluetooth exchange if you use those features.

Open Food Facts product lookup

When the app needs to look up an unknown scanned product, it may send the product barcode to the Open Food Facts API at https://openfoodfacts.org/. Open Food Facts returns available product-name information. The lookup request also includes a HomeInventory user-agent string needed to identify the requesting application.

Open Food Facts handles information according to its own terms and privacy practices. Do not use the product lookup feature if you do not want the scanned barcode to be sent to Open Food Facts.

File import and export

The app lets you export and import inventory data using XML files. Exported XML files may contain the selected inventory records, identifiers, and images. You choose where to save exported files and which files to import.

You are responsible for keeping exported files secure and for choosing trusted files when importing data.

Bluetooth exchange

The app lets you exchange data directly with another HomeInventory device over Bluetooth. This transfer happens only when you start the exchange and select a device. Data sent by Bluetooth may include inventory records, images, thumbnails, deleted-record metadata, record identifiers, and exchange identifiers.

You are responsible for selecting trusted Bluetooth devices.

Third-party services and SDKs

The app includes Android and Google libraries, including Google ML Kit barcode scanning and Google Play delivery, review, and update components. These libraries may process technical information needed to provide their functionality, such as on-device barcode detection, compatibility, app update, app delivery, diagnostics, or review behavior according to Google's applicable terms and privacy practices. ML Kit may contact Google servers to obtain updates, bug fixes, models, or hardware-compatibility information.

The app uses the Open Food Facts API for optional barcode-based product-name lookup as described above.

The app also includes jsoup, which may be used by app features that read or process web content.

HomeInventory does not include advertising SDKs and does not intentionally use advertising tracking.

Sharing of information

The developer does not sell your personal information.

The developer does not share your app records with third parties except when:

• you request an Open Food Facts lookup, which sends a product barcode to Open Food Facts;
• you export data to a file;
• you import or exchange data using a file or Bluetooth feature;
• Android, Google Play, or included Google libraries process technical information required for platform or SDK functionality;
• disclosure is required by applicable law.

Retention and deletion

Records stored locally remain on your device until you edit or delete them, clear the app's data, uninstall the app, or replace them through import or synchronization.

HomeInventory does not create a user account in the app. To delete local data, use the app's delete features, clear the app data in Android settings, or uninstall the app.

Security

The app stores data locally using Android app storage. Bluetooth exchange and file export/import are controlled by actions you take in the app. No method of electronic storage or transfer is completely secure, so you should protect your device, exported files, synchronization tokens, and trusted devices appropriately.

Children's privacy

HomeInventory is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The updated version should be published at the privacy policy URL used in Google Play Console, with a new effective date if the changes are material.
